Senator Barau I. Jibrin (born 19 June 1959) is a seasoned Nigerian politician, accountant, and businessman from Kano State.
He has represented Kano North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate since 2015 and was elected Deputy President of the Senate on 13 June 2023without opposition. A member of the All Progressives Congress (Apc), he previously served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003.
Barau holds multiple academic qualifications, including a bachelor’s in accounting and a PhD in Corporate Entrepreneurship Known for his expertise in fiscal oversight, he has chaired key Senate committees such as Appropriations.
Beyond legislature, he is founder of Barau FC and leads various empowerment and development initiatives in Kano. Barau has received national honours including Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) and leadership awards for his service. He is married with children and is active in both Abuja and Kano public life.
